The last few weeks here at Comtec have had a seasonal flavour as we’ve been busy translating last-minute Christmas messages for some of our clients. Festive greetings for corporate Christmas cards, translated e-shots sharing news and greetings from the team, as well as social media updates for multiple markets have all been very popular!

Many organisations use English as their ‘business language’ for day-to-day communications with their colleagues and associates in global markets. However, as we wind down for the Christmas break, it’s nice to personalise your emails and other communications with a ‘Merry Christmas’, translated into the recipients’ native language. To make it easy for you, here are 10 Merry Christmases in the top languages identified in the British Council’s Languages for the Future report.

Merry Christmas in 10 different languages

1. Spanish

Feliz Navidad

2. Mandarin

聖誕快樂

3. French

Joyeux Noël

4. Arabic

عيد ميلاد مجيد

5. German

Frohe Weihnachten

6. Italian

Buon Natale

7. Dutch

Prettige Kerstdagen

8. Portuguese

Feliz Natal

9. Japanese

メリー クリスマス

10. Russian

Even when your organisation generally uses English to communicate with global contacts, greetings and pleasantries exchanged in their native language can make a real difference. Staff working in global markets feel more valued and part of the team when you make the effort to communicate in their language; and it’s good business etiquette to have a few phrases up your sleeve when communicating with clients and associates in different markets.
